This past Thursday when I returned back to the office from a customer's site I had a message from a lady named Jacqueline Stevenson of Business West magazine.
In the message she stated that she and Business West magazine would like to do a feature story on Turcotte Data & Designs and myself. As you can imagine, I was thrilled… there is no better publicity than free publicity. Even better when you take into account that Business West has a circulation of 8,000 issues.
During my return phone call she mentioned that they have an upcoming issue on technology and would like to feature TDD in that issue. As we talked I asked her how she had heard about my business. I am pleased to say that she told me that they had received several press releases from me in the past few months and had saved them. I was very pleased to hear this as I had (obviously) been sending them press releases each time I released one, even though they had not put anything in their issues up to this point. I had hoped that persistence would pay off, or at least it would build some name recognition with them. Apparently it did!
My point is don't give up sending those press releases out. I have been sending press releases out for 8 months and have had nothing "major" published until just recently. Within the last 4 weeks, I have had feature articles about TDD featured in the Ware River News (you can read the article in my blog), my Chamber of Commerce newsletter (about to be published), and now Business West magazine. I conservatively figure that between these three publications, TDD and myself has been exposed to just under 20,000 new people. As with most things, persistence and repetition has paid off. It also makes you realize that your hard work is not going unnoticed, which can sometimes feel that way when you (in this case) are sending press releases off to some unseen person or fax machine.
Don't give up!
