This Friday, April 17th, there will be a flocking together of Western Mass users of the popular Twitter social networking website.
Twitter.com allows its users to communicate with each other by sending short messages, or "tweets". Other Twitter users will then receive these messages via a text message on their phone, an update to a Twitter desktop program or via the Twitter website.
This real-time communication allows users to keep up on what their friends, business partners or favorite celebrities are doing at a moment's notice. A Twitter user is credited for capturing the first photo of the US Airways Flight 1549's plunge into the Hudson River on January 15th, 2009.
"I organized the first Western MA TweetUp in January to allow local Twitter users to get together in person and meet those they only knew through the short message they received on Twitter." said Jason Turcotte, President of Turcotte Data & Designs, a technology and design solutions business located in Easthampton. "I wanted to put the real-world social in 'social networking'" Turcotte added.
Participants in the last TweetUp ranged from those involved in various technology services like website design and development to public relations specialists, local bloggers, photographers and just those who enjoy using the Twitter service.
The Western MA TweetUp is free and open to the public. The event is going to be held at The Dirty Truth in Northampton on Friday, April 17th from 5:30PM to 7:30PM.
If attending, please RSVP on the Western MA TweetUp Facebook Page!
