Recently, a fellow Western MA resident posted a “rant” (his word, not mine) about how the Western Massachusetts business climate is less than ideal and offers little in the way of networking opportunities. I think he missed the mark quite a bit and have re-posted my comments here, lest they be moderated away on his site.
As owner of Turcotte Data & Design, I try to give back to my local community as much as possible by helping out here and there. I thought that for the month of May it would be good to try to do something a little different.
February 9th marked the second installment of podCamp Western Mass, this year held on the campus of Westfield State College in Westfield, MA.
Guinness, an English Bulldog and Turcotte Data & Design’s official mascot and beloved pet won “Pet of the Month” honors at his Vet’s office!

I recently purchased a Flip UltraHD camcorder. I’ve been looking for a decent, affordable camcorder for awhile now and had heard good things about the Flip.
After bringing home the Flip UltraHD and un-boxing it, I did what any good techie would do… I set about to update the software and firmware for the Flip. This seemed easy enough, off to http://www.theflip.com/app/fvsw/45/update/ to download the latest software for my Mac (OS X), fire up the installer and away we go.

Most people by now have heard of Twitter, the social networking phenomenon that has millions of people staring at their cell phones and computers, sending messages back and forth.
Twitter has legitimate business uses, not the least of which is networking with other business professionals.
A professional group of women have realized the power of Twitter and organized themselves under the “TwitterQueens” moniker.
I was recently asked this by someone doing a research project.
Well, here’s my take…
“Web 2.0” focuses on more interactive, web-driven (cloud based) applications and functions. That doesn’t mean that user-centered design is not part of the equation, but “fancy web sites” have been around for quite some time.
